El Rivino Country Club first opened for play in 1956. The course was designed by Joseph Calwell.
El Rivino is one of the more scenic public courses in the greater Los Angeles area. Located amid the Riverside foothills, the course offers enough variety of terrain to challenge even the most advanced golfer. The fairways are narrow and tree lined on some holes and wide open on others. There is absolutely no rough on this course and only a small number of well-placed sand bunkers. However, there are five ponds that come into play on at least eight holes, and out-of-bounds areas come into play on many other holes. One of the more notable features about this course is its first hole, a 626-yard, par 6. The entire course is very picturesque, including beautiful flowers, wildlife and breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside.
El Rivino Country Club closed in 2005.

The course was a gem....especially the par 4 fourth hole. An uphill dog leg right, then a dogleg left down to a penninsula green surrounded on several sides by trees and water. The rest of the course was straightforward but nice.
How this course couldn't make it and a dog track like Paradise Knolls is still running, I'll never know. What I do know was the mustached guy in the pro shop was a total idiot!
The best thing coming out of the closure of El Rivino was that that the mustached guy is no longer hassling golfers.
RIP Riv ... We miss you.

just heard today that while still closed the course is being mowed and well maintained and is beautiful. So maybe they will open in the near future
